2022 dallas mavericks roster12/10/2023 While this is true, KD going there changed everything. They’re trying to put win now pieces around Hali, not give up starters.ģ. They are a bad team but their core has made it clear they want to compete for playoffs, they didn’t tank this yr or plan to. Also they’re not really in rebuild mode either. They got rid of a bonafide all star in Sabonis to give him the keys at center, they’re not moving on from him for nothing after that. Turner is no longer on the block now that the tandem of him and Haliburton looks really promising for years to come. Their bench is a much bigger issue than their starters but if they do move on from Allen (who was an all star in 2022) what does Dallas offer that makes them better and can fill the hole at C? They don’t want Green and draft picks lol they’re not in rebuild mode with Mitchell there.Ģ. The obvious plan for Cavs is to run it back with the same group & bet on the development of Garland/Mobley. Outside of 4 and 5 you couldn’t have got these more wrong tbh.ġ. running it back with the entire rotation minus christian wood and expecting a different result would be actually idiotic. so if luka, hardy, green, and bertans are the only players leftover from this season, and dallas has managed to reload with some clever signings, S&Ts, trades, etc, then that's a success. what is accomplished there? do you think they are going to trade hardaway and mcgee for a superstar that makes it ok that the bench is horrible?ĭallas is likely stuck with bertans unless they luck into a trade where his contract is necessary to make the money work (he's effectively on an expiring, so it actually could happen). keeping it together would be a disaster, especially considering dallas has no cap or trade assets in the meantime. this team sucks and proved it sucks by how it performed after the irving trade. It's insane to me that there are 8 guys on this roster (or more!) that you all would want to keep. everyone else can go, including kyrie, ideally in a S&T. The only players i would keep are luka, hardy, and green. Can it be extracted from some of our current players or is a larger overhaul necessary? The identity of this team has been compromised, and with two large holes in the roster, the Mavericks is on a search for both talent and chemistry. When Jalen Brunson left, it seemed that the team was stripped of more than just a great talent. Nico Harrison needs to decide which current players will fit the mold of a team with championship aspirations. While another player can fill these holes, the potential of a 2023 first round draft pick could also look to add value to this core. DFS and Reggie Bullock looked solid last season but, with DFS in Brooklyn and Reggie regressing, only Josh Green looks qualified on the floor. The next need is a defensive wing who can guard wings. This may be more of a question of whether Jason Kidd understands how to utilize a big man, but it's understood that in order to win a title we will need a player that fits the bill of a championship big. With as many big men as the Mavericks had on contract, there was no solidarity with the center position. The Mavericks had one of the lowest defensive ratings post-trade deadline. The #1 need of this team is a consistent defensive big. Players To Keep (Barring a Trade to Improve the Team): Here is the how each of the player groups can be categorized: With the goal to re-sign Kyrie and build upon their defense with a true center and defensive wings, Nico Harrison has a large task of deciding whether to commit to many long-time Mavericks players. Guarantee increases to full if not waived by June 30, 2024.As we wait for May 16th, the Mavericks (like their fans) are left ample time to decide on if each player on their roster is a fit to the identity of a championship level team.
